Hearts in Motion Shawl Pattern

The Hearts in Motion shawl is a rectangular shawl with parallel lines that run along the shawl ending in a heart-shaped lace pattern. The easy-to-remember pattern makes this a perfect knit to relax with.

The shawl is knitted flat, starting with a small number of stitches that increases gradually until the full width of the shawl is reached. From there the shawl is knitted straight until it reaches its full length. The shawl measures approximately 181 x 49 cm (71.25 x 19.25 in).

The recommended yarn is a fingering weight yarn in a merino or merino-blend base. The gauge for a stockinette stitch swatch is 32 sts x 41 rows for a 10x10 cm swatch made on 3 mm (US2.5) needles.

You will need approximately 900 – 1100m of yarn.

To make this shawl, you will use the following techniques:

• Knit and purl
• Knit and purl through the back loop
• Increases and decreases (make 1, ssk and knit together)
• Yarn over

This design was made as part of a collection of designs I entered in a design competition. I was honoured to receive third place in that competition. The other designs in the collection are the Twisted tulips cowl and the Wrap-around gloves.
